Martin Demuth

Can you briefly introduce yourself and your role within the HYDREAMS project?

I am Martin Demuth, Senior Manager Application Technology R&D at Messer. In the HYDREAMS project, I am responsible for overseeing technology development of hydrogen burners and combustion, ensuring that our contributions align with the overall objectives of the project.

How does the collaboration within HYDREAMS align with your company’s sustainability goals?

At Messer, helping protect the planet is one of the three pillars of our sustainability commitments. One way we put this into action is by developing innovative technological solutions that address the needs of our time, from conserving resources to improving process efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our collaboration within HYDREAMS is a great example of this approach. This valuable initiative provides the perfect platform to accelerate the deployment of clean hydrogen solutions and support the decarbonization goals of the steel industry.

What innovations or technological advancements from HYDREAMS are you most looking forward to implementing?

I’m particularly looking forward to implementing hydrogen-capable multi-fuel burners, which have extremely low NOx emissions when utilizing both air-fuel and oxyfuel combustion. They will play a pivotal role in the future.

Ivan Perez

Can you briefly introduce yourself and your role within the HYDREAMS project?

I am Ivan Perez, Sales Technology Manager at Messer. In the HYDREAMS project, I am responsible for managing the commercial activities related to Messer burners used for oxyfuel combustion.

How does the collaboration within HYDREAMS align with your company’s sustainability goals?

Messer sees hydrogen as a key enabler of industrial decarbonization. As a long-standing hydrogen expert, we believe it is our responsibility to help industrial sectors, including the steel sector, seize the opportunities offered by hydrogen and contribute to sustainable growth. This can only be achieved when different actors come together and that’s exactly where HYDREAMS comes in. It creates the kind of collaboration across the value chain that’s essential for integrating hydrogen solutions into production processes.

What role do you see hydrogen playing in the future of steel production?

Clean hydrogen will play an important role in reducing the environmental impact of steel production on the pathway to net-zero emissions, by replacing fossil fuels traditionally used in processes. Moreover, the use of hydrogen offers benefits that go beyond just the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and helps drive the broader energy transition forward.
